How to reach Bankruptcy Compass to report an error on a rule, amount or calculator. We can't answer questions about individual cases or recommend lawyers.

Found a mistake, or have a question about something we published? Email us at contact@bankruptcycompass.com.

This page is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice, and not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. Bankruptcy law and exemption amounts vary by state and change. Ask a bankruptcy lawyer, legal aid or the court about your situation.

We can’t answer questions about your case

We are not a law firm, and writing to us creates no attorney-client relationship. We can’t answer questions about individual cases or debts. That means we can’t say whether you should file, which chapter fits, whether you qualify, whether a debt will be discharged, or what you will keep. We can’t recommend a lawyer, a credit counselling agency, a debt relief company or any other service, and we don’t refer anyone to one. Writing to us does not stop a deadline, a foreclosure sale, a garnishment or a lawsuit.

If you need help with your own situation, a bankruptcy lawyer can look at your case, and the Legal Services Corporation’s search finds legal aid offices it funds. If you have a court date or a court paper, contact the court named on it; many bankruptcy courts have self-help pages. The required credit counselling and debtor education courses must come from providers on the US Trustee Program’s approved lists; we don’t recommend any provider on them.

Reporting an error

Please include the address of the page, the amount, date, rule or sentence you think is wrong, and a link to a statute, court page, adjustment notice or other official source for the right information if you have one. We check every report against the source. Exemption amounts and income figures change often, so a report that a figure has changed is especially welcome. Our corrections page explains what happens next.

Lawyers, advertisers and companies

We don’t sell sponsored posts, links, reviews, listings or placements, and we don’t take affiliate deals, sell leads or make referrals. If you publish a figure we cite, or a fact on our page about your field is wrong, send a source and we will check it like any other report.

What not to send

Please don’t send court papers, case numbers, petitions or schedules, bank or pay statements, tax returns, account numbers, Social Security numbers or other personal details, yours or anyone else’s. We don’t need them to check a page. Our privacy policy explains how we handle what you send us.
